Australian cricketers Steven Smith just broke a 73-year-old record in Test cricket history when he was batting against Pakistan on the day two of the day/night Adelaide Test.
Despite losing the opener Joe Burns (4) very early, the Australian team managed to get a very good start in the ongoing home Test match after winning the toss. Another opener David Warner and the no.3 batsman Marnus Labuschagne put a giant second-wicket partnership for 361 runs. It was the first 300+ partnership in day/night Test history.
While Labuschagne was dismissed after scoring 162 runs in 238 balls (22 fours), Warner completed his second Test double-century in that same over. On the other hand, Steven Smith came to bat at the no.4 after Labuschagne was dismissed.
Steven Smith completed 7,000 Test runs in 126 innings
Before this innings, Steven Smith (6,977 runs) was 23 runs away from the 7,000 Test runs. He completed this feat during his 126th Test innings (70th Test match), which is the new fastest record in Test cricket history to complete 7,000 Test runs.
Former English cricketer Wally Hammond was the previous record-holder to complete fastest 7,000 Test runs. It was the 73-year-old record as Hammond achieved this feat in August 1942 where he completed 7,000 Test runs in 131 Test innings.
Steven Smith became the 11th Australian batsman to score 7,000 Test runs. After crossing 19 runs in that innings, Smith surpassed Sir Donald Bradman‘s Test career runs (6,996 runs).
On the other hand, David Warner has maintained his furious batting even after completing his double-century. While the left-handed batsman completed his 200 runs in 260 balls, he reached 250 runs in 330 balls.
At the lunch of day two of this Test, Australia were batting on 475/2. At the end of that session, while Warner was batting on 261 runs, Smith was not out on 34 runs and they had an unbroken third-wicket partnership of 106 runs.
