Sydney Thunders’ off-spinner Chris Green is all set to miss the remainder of Big Bash League as he has been banned from bowling for 90 days. It also means that he will miss the initial stage of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2020, which is likely to start in the last week of March.

Green was bought by Kolkata Knight Riders at his base price of Rs 20 Lakh. Although Cricket Australia’s ban does not bars him from bowling in IPL, BCCI mostly does not allow banned players to participate in the league until their ban period is over.

In 2018, Cricket Australia’s ban allowed Steven Smith and David Warner to play in IPL but BCCI did not allow the duo to play in the T20 league. Hence, Green might miss the initial stage of the league.
Green’s action was reported during the match against Melbourne Stars last week. He isn’t a part of the playing XI for the ongoing match against Melbourne Stars and will sit out of Cricket Australia’s competitions for 90 days.

It comes as a big blow to Green, who has been tipped to be Australia’s surprise package for T20 World Cup. He has impressed with his economical bowling in the franchise cricket and is expected to be in contention if he does well in future.

Green’s absence is also a big blow to the club as he signed a six-year deal with them. Green’s six-year signing remains to be the longest signing by any player in the history of BBL
The 26-year-old has 65 wickets in 82 T20s. Known for bowling in the powerplay, Green has maintained an economy rate of 6.77 in his T20 career. He hasn’t played a first-class fixture so far and has an experience of playing eight List A matches, with his last appearance in 50-over format coming back in October 2018.
