Virat Kohli, MS Dhoni Didn't Support me The Way Sourav Ganguly Did: Yuvraj Singh 1

Flamboyant former India cricketer Yuvraj Singh is well known for his antics in the white-ball format. The southpaw was instrumental in India lifting the World T20 Trophy in 2007 and the 50-over World Cup in 2011. A charismatic cricketer, Yuvraj amassed 8,701 runs in 304 ODIs apart from scalping 111 wickets.

He was a brute force even in the shortest format of the game; in which he batted at a strike rate of close to 140. A dynamic player at his best, Yuvraj added depth to the Indian line-up. The southpaw made his international debut in 2000 against Kenya, under the captaincy of Sourav Ganguly. From there on, Yuvraj cemented his place in the ODI side and turned out to be a vital cog in Ganguly’s XI.

Recently, Yuvraj spoke to Sportstar, narrating his fight against cancer to motivate his countrymen as India fights the Coronavirus pandemic. From being the man of the tournament in the 2011 World Cup, Yuvraj slipped into the cold, as he battled serious illness before making a phenomenal return to the side.

It’s a difficult choice to make between Sourav and Mahi: Yuvraj Singh

He was asked to pick the best captain he has played under. Yuvraj in his nonchalant approach named Ganguly as his favourite skipper. Furthermore, he said that the support from Ganguly during his playing days helped him turn into a match-winner. He also took a sly dig at MS Dhoni and current captain Virat Kohli, saying that he didn’t receive the same amount of backing from the other two.

“I have played under Sourav (Ganguly) and had a lot of support from him. Then Mahi (MS Dhoni) took over. It’s a difficult choice to make between Sourav and Mahi. I have more memories of time under Sourav because of the support he gave me. I didn’t have that kind of support from Mahi and Virat (Kohli).” Yuvraj said.

All in all, Yuvraj has been the cornerstone for Indian cricket during his heydays.
