Cricketers have been out of action for over two months because of the global pandemic. India’s bowling coach Bharat Arun has shown concern over the player’s fitness amid the lockdown. He believes Team India will have to face more challenges because they have been not in touch with their practice for so long.

Since March, all the cricket matches have been postponed or suspended, and it has been the longest time that players have not played a competitive match. Some cricketer Boards like England Cricket Board and Cricket Australia are trying their best to resume cricket activities and bring back the game in the country. While BCCI has decided not to take risks and to wait until the situation gets normal.

In the recent interaction, Bharat Arun said that it could be very frustrating for a professional sportsperson to stay at home and do nothing. However, he acknowledges the current situation has forced them to lock themselves behind closed doors.

After discussing with team management, Arun recommends six to eight weeks of training camp will be required before the players play any international cricket.

“For a professional sportsperson, to be sitting at home doing nothing can be very frustrating. Not being able to expand that energy is like a curse. It can be boring, can be extremely monotonous. But there’s no choice and therefore it’s a challenge that has to be taken up. The team management has identified that the cricketers will need camp lasting six to eight weeks to conduct this elevated training and optimum skill-based programme before they can walk out to play international cricket.” Bharat Arun said as quoted by Times of India.

While Arun explains that Nick Webb, Team India’s trainer, is doing an excellent job, he is working on the fitness of players and giving them proper training to them through online programs.
