As India is all set to make history in the first ODI against West Indies in Ahmedabad, let’s look at some relevant numbers of the match.

The first team to play 1000 ODIs:

As India will take the field for the first ODI, they will become the first-ever side to play 1000 matches in ODI cricket. India played their first ODI against England at Leeds in 1974. So far they played 999 ODIs as they won 518 games, lost 431 while 9 games tied and 41 ended as No result. They played their 500th ODI against England at Chester-le-Street in 2002.

In Test Cricket England (1045) is the only team to cross the 1000-mark, while in T20Is, Pakistan is leading the chart with 189 matches.

Head to head:

India and West Indies faced each other in 133 games and India is marginally ahead with a margin of 64-63. And in India, it’s pretty much the same as India leads the contest with a margin of 29-28.

As far as a bilateral series win is concerned, the last time West Indies won an ODI series in India, was in 2002 when Carl Hooper led West Indies to a 4-3 win in 7-match series. Overall they played a total of 10 bilateral ODI match series (2+ matches) in India and they could win only 3 series in 1983, 1987, and 2002.

First ODI in Ahmedabad after 7 years:

The last time an ODI match was played in Ahmedabad, was way back in November 2014 when India beat Sri Lanka comprehensively by 6 wickets. Overall a total of 23 ODIs have been played on the ground. India played 15 ODIs with 7 wins and 8 losses. On other side, West Indies has a formidable record on this ground with 5 wins in 7 ODIs.

Against India, it’s even better as the hosts could beat them only once in 5 clashes on this ground.

Virat Kohli at Motera:

Virat Kohli has a mixed record on this ground while his ODI record here is pretty average as he scored 150 runs in 4 ODIs here with only one fifty but last year he smashes 3 fifties in 5-match T20I series against England as he scored 231 runs in the series.

100 ODI wickets for Yuzvendra Chahal:

Chahal’s wait for 100 ODI wickets has been getting longer and longer. Before the ODI series against South Africa, he needed only 3 wickets for the milestone but in the match, he could pick only 2 wickets. If he achieves the feat in this series, he will be the second-quickest Indian spinner to reach the milestone, only behind Kuldeep Yadav (58 matches).
