The ongoing title reign of Dr. Britt Baker has finally come to an end on last night’s AEW Dynamite episode as she digested a pinfall loss against her biggest opponent. In a one-year anniversary celebration of AEW’s biggest women’s division match from last year, Thunder Rosa gained a clean win and thereby become the new champion.
Both Baker and Rosa gave their absolute bests in order to push themselves to their limits during the steel cage main event match for the AEW Women’s Title. The defending champion, Baker, was busted open during a spot and her face was covered with blood about halfway through the bout. Even Rosa sported blood to solidify that they were going through another brutal encounter on AEW Dynamite.

Baker executed an air-raid crash from the top rope, driving Rosa into a large pile of steel chairs by the end of the match. Another big spot in the bout was a top turnbuckle spot where Rosa pushed Baker down onto another stack of chairs, but it wasn’t enough to get the job done. The two women brought out thumbtacks in memory of their unsanctioned, lights-out match from one year ago on AEW Dynamite.

AEW Dynamite took place in Rosa’s home territory
The match finally saw the finishing sequence where Rosa hit Baker with the Thunder Driver onto those thumbtacks to get the 1-2-3. This, Rosa also began her first title win in AEW while Baker’s longest-reigning Women’s Title run came to an end.
Once AEW Dynamite went off the air, an emotional Rosa embraced her friends and family in the audience. The announcers referred to how San Antonio is the “adopted hometown” for the new champion. She also received a special entrance before the match. Rosa also paid homage to WWE Hall of Famer Steve Austin by hitting a stunner on Baker on the occasion of the 3:16 Day in professional wrestling.
Rosa originally came up short in capturing the AEW Women’s Championship at the Revolution pay-per-view on March 6. Then on last week’s AEW Dynamite, a match was hosted between Rosa and Leyla Hirsch to determine the number-one contender for the AEW Women’s World Title. Rosa got the win and thereby received one more shot at the title to set up the rematch with Baker.
