Virender Sehwag has lavished praise on England superstar Joe Root after the latter’s century in the second innings of the Edgbaston Test against India.

There is absolutely no stopping Joe Root at the moment. The former England skipper proved his class once again on Tuesday by scoring yet another sensational century against India at Edgbaston to put England well on course for a win in the game.

It was his 11th Test century since the start of 2021. During the same period, Virat Kohli has not managed to score even one century while the two other members of fab four – Kane Williamson and Steve Smith – have managed one each.

The century was Root’s fourth of the series. He had scored three tons during the first four Tests which took place last year. Earlier on Monday, he broke Kohli’s record for the most runs in an India vs England Test series.

Kohli set the record during the 2016-17 series, when he scored 655 runs with an impressive average of 109.16. The Indian batter had two hundreds and as many fifties. Root has now surpassed Kohli’s tally after scoring 4 tons and one fifty in the series.

Virender Sehwag calls Root the best in the world:

Soon after Root completed his century on the final day of the Edgbaston Test, Virender Sehwag took to Twitter to praise him. The legendary batsman called Root an amazing run machine and went on to call him the best Test batsman in the world ahead of the likes of Kohli, Smith and Williamson.

“4th Test hundred of the series for this amazing Run machine, Joe Root. The best test batsman in the world right now,” wrote Virender Sehwag.

Meanwhile, England are on course to win the ongoing Test and draw the five-match series. The hosts began the day on 259 for 3 while chasing a record 378. Root and Jonny Bairstow started positively and did not give the visitors any chance of making a comeback.

At the time of compiling this report, England were on 331 for 3 with Root on 114 and Bairstow on 97. Following the Test, both the teams will lock horns in T20Is and ODIs.
