On the final day of the fourth Test between India and England at Mumbai, Virat Kohli’s men clinched a victory by an innings and 36 runs to take an unassailable 3-0 lead in the five-match series. England were 182/6 at stumps on Day 4 and were bowled out at just 195 inside the first nine overs on Day 5.

  1. India won the Test by an innings and 36 runs which proved to be India’s largest Test victory (by an innings) against England on Indian soil. Their previous best was winning by an innings and 22 runs at Chennai in 1993.

 

  1. England lost the Test despite scoring 400 in the first innings. It was only the third time where a team lost by an innings despite scoring 400 or more runs in the first innings of a Test.
  1. India off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin bowled excellently in this match as his final bowling figures were 64.3-7-167-12 (6/112 and 6/55). It was the 2nd best Test match bowling figures by an Indian bowler against England. The best figures are 69.4-24-108-12 by Vinoo Mankad at Chennai in 1952.
  1. Indian spinners grabbed a total 19 wickets in this Test. It was the 4th time where Indian spinners took 19 or more wickets in a Test against England. The last time Indian spinners took 19 wickets against England in a Test was at Bangalore in 1977.

 

  1. At the end of this Test, Indian skipper Virat Kohli was selected as the Man of the Match. He became the first Indian Test captain to win more than one Man of the Match award against England.

 

  1. It was only the second time where India won three Tests in a series against England. The first such incident was in 1993, where England toured in India and lost all the three Tests of that series. India have never won more than three Tests in a series against England.
  2. This Test victory was India’s 8th Test victory this year which is also the joint highest Test winning record for India in a calendar year. In 2010, India had won eight Tests.
