New Zealand vs Bangladesh 2016-17: Mushfiqur Rahim Ruled Out Of Remainder Of ODI Series 1

After losing the first One-Day International by 77 runs against New Zealand, Bangladesh have suffered another setback as they will miss the services of their senior batsman Mushfiqur Rahman for the remaining two matches. The 28-year-old had pulled his hamstring while running between the wickets in the first ODI on the Boxing Day before retiring hurt on 42 and has failed to recover from it.

The wicket-keeper-batsman will remain on the sidelines for around a couple of weeks and as a result, he is also likely to miss the three-match T20I series that begins on January 3.

Confirming the extent of the injury, Bangladesh head coach Chandika Hathurusingha hopes for a speedy recovery from the batting mainstay and said Nurul Hasan will make his one-day international debut as wicke-tkeeper in the second match of the series on Thursday.

“At this stage Mushfiq is out for two weeks,” Hathurusingha said. “But he is recovering well. I saw him in the pool today. You know Mushfiq, he is very driven and thorough in his preparation. I am sure he will do the same thing with his injury. He will be ready sooner than we think.

“If Mushfiqur was here, we would have had more options in selection. [Hasan] is coming in, and he is capable as anyone with the bat. He hasn’t played much international cricket but we are confident he can do a job,” he concluded.
