At stumps on Day 2 of the third Test between Australia and Pakistan at Sydney, the hosts are clearly in the driver’s seat.

Australia began the day at 365/3 and carried their innings to 538/8d.

In reply, Pakistan put on a good show after surviving two early dismissals in their innings. At stumps, Pakistan were 126/2, trailing by 412 runs.

  1. Australian opening batsman Matt Renshaw was dismissed after scoring 184 runs. It was the 3rd highest score by an Australian opening batsman against Pakistan in a Test innings. The top two innings in this list are: 334* by Mark Taylor (at Peshawar in 1998) and 191 by Justin Langer (at Perth in 2004).

 

  1. Australian batsman Peter Handscomb scored 110 runs before he was dismissed via hit wicket. Handscomb became the 4th Australian batsman and 14th overall batsman to get dismissed via hit wicket after scoring a Test century. Last time an Australian batsman got dismissed via hit-wicket after scoring a Test century was almost 70 years ago – Don Bradman (185 against India at Brisbane in 1947).

 

  1. Total of three Australian batsmen hit centuries during their first innings. Matt Renshaw (184), David Warner (113) and Peter Handscomb (110). It was the first time when more than two Australian batsmen hit centuries against Pakistan in a Test innings.

 

  1. Australia declared their first innings on 538/8, the 3rd highest declared Test total for Australia against Pakistan. The top two in this list are: 624/8 decl. (at Melbourne in 2016) and 599/4 decl. (at Peshawar in 1998).

 

  1. Pakistan’s opening batsman Azhar Ali scored another good 50+ as he remained unbeaten on 58. Including this innings, Azhar has scored 382 runs in this Test series, the 2nd most runs scored by a Pakistan batsman in a Test series on the Australian soil. Mohsin Khan is the record holder of most runs scored by a Pakistan batsman in a Test series on Australian soil, with 390 runs in a Test series in 1983.

 

  1. At stumps on Day 2, Pakistan batsmen Azhar Ali and Younis Khan put on a brilliant unbeaten 120-run partnership for the 3rd wicket. It is Pakistan’s second 100+ Test partnership for the 3rd wicket on Australian soil.
