Vijay Hazare Trophy 2016/17: Ashish Nehra Makes A Comeback As Unmukt Chand Dropped, Mohit Ahlawat On Stand-By 1

The Delhi selectors have made few big changes in the squad for the first three games of the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2016/17 as apart from the comeback of Ashish Nehra, the axing of Unmukt Chand from made rounds as the former Under 19 World Cup winning captain was dropped from the squad for his poor run in past few seasons.

Ironically, Unmukt led Delhi side in three Ranji games this season and this bold decision by selectors came out of nowhere.

Mohit Ahlawat, who recently drew the attention by scoring a triple century in a T20 game was put on stand by as he had a direct competition with skipper Rishabh Pant for the wicket-keeping slot and selector had no choice but to put Ahlawat on standby.

Ashish Nehra, who is eyeing to play Champions Trophy 2017 has been included in the squad as it has been reported that it is BCCI which has asked Nehra to play List A cricket in order to keep his chances alive for the ICC tournament.

Sarthak Ranjan has been selected in the team as the third opener apart from Shikhar Dhawan and Gautam Gambhir. The squad also includes likes of Nitish Rana, Dhruv Shorey, and Himmat Singh.

Manan Sharma and Pawan Negi are the two spin bowling all-rounder in the squad.

Navdeep Saini, who is the part of the India A squad for the practice game against Australia will perform the fast bowling duties along with Ashish Nehra, Pradeep Sangwan and Vikas Tokas.

Delhi Squad for first three games: Rishabh Pant (captain), Shikhar Dhawan, Gautam Gambhir, Ashish Nehra, Milind Kumar, Dhruv Shorey, Sarthak Ranjan, Himmat Singh, Nitish Rana, Manan Sharma, Pawan Negi, Pulkit Narang, Pradeep Sangwan, Navdeep Saini, Vikas Tokas.

16th Member: Kulwant Khejroliya (3 matches).

Standby: Aditya Kaushik, Tejas Baroka, Mohit Ahlawat, Subodh Bhati.
