When the whole cricketing fraternity was busy enjoying the fiercely fought Test between India and Australia at Bengaluru, former Aussie skipper Steve Waugh, on Tuesday (February 7), visited Varanasi to fulfill the last wish of his deceased friend, a Sydney-based shoe-shiner.
The shoe-shiner, who doesn’t have a family, wanted his ashes to be scattered in the holy waters of river Ganges and the legendary cricketer made sure to fulfill the dying wish of his friend who died four months ago.
Waugh, who was accompanied by his friend Johnson, expressed his delight being a part of this noble cause.

“It was a life time opportunity for me and I really wanted to visit that city. It has a very spiritual feeling. To have the honour and privilege of scattering the remains of Brian (Rudd), I feel great about it. He had a very tough life and didn’t have a family. His last wish was to have ashes scattered in the Ganges. I am very glad to have done something for him and it was a celebration of his life,” Waugh told India Today.
