In a massive blow to Asian cricketing fans, the much-anticipated Asia Cup 2023 might be scraped, if the Pakistan Cricket Board stands firm on its position of playing the tournament in the hybrid model, as BCCI is mulling to organize a five-nation cricket during the Asia Cup window.

The high-octane Asia Cup was scheduled to be held in Pakistan, but the Indian team refused to travel to the country citing political tension between both countries and security reasons, Earlier according to reports it was said that, PCB has proposed a hybrid model, where India can play their matches in different countries, while the other matches in the tournament are played in Pakistan.

PCB Chief Najam Sethi said that the proposal to play India games in other countries and other games in Pakistan was under discussion by the ACC and said that PCB was not involved in the meeting.

Earlier, Asian Cricket Council (ACC) president Jay Shah disclosed that ACC is waiting for a response from other participating countries to confirm the venue for Asia Cup 2023.

“We are awaiting feedback from other nations to finalize the venue for the 2023 Asia Cup and clarity on the India-Pakistan match,” Jay Shah told the media.

However, a BCCI source recently revealed that the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) believes hosting the tournament in the two countries is not commercially viable.

According to reports, a few important decisions regarding Asia Cup 2023 will take in the forthcoming days. Meanwhile, the BCCI has begun preparations for a potential five-nation tournament, which could be held during the window of the Asia Cup in September.

Earlier, Najam Sethi said that he will be raising these issues in the next ACC and ICC meetings–and stated if BCCI doesn’t allow the Indian team to Pakistan for Asia Cup 2023, then Pakistan might not visit India for the World Cup.

The six-nation Asia Cup, which will be played in a 50-over format and is likely to be played in the first part of September 2023, has grouped India and Pakistan with a qualifier. Afghanistan, Bangladesh, and Sri Lanka are included in the other group. The final will be one of a total of 13 games played over 13 days.
