IPL 2020: Will Take Only One Inning To Score A Hundred For KXIP – Chris Gayle

The T20 legendary batsman Chris Gayle has stated that he will take only one inning in the upcoming season of the IPL to score a century for Kings XI Punjab. Kings XI Punjab posted a question on their Twitter account which said how many innings will Chris Gayle take to score another IPL hundred. The Universe Boss, who is always optimistic about his skills, was quick to respond and replied only one.

Meanwhile, Chris Gayle last played for Chattogram Challengers in the Bangladesh Premier League. The left-hander showed great form as he scored 144 runs in four matches for the franchise. The attacking southpaw scored a blistering knock of 60 runs off just 24 balls in his final match.

However, Gayle opted out of the ongoing Caribbean Premier League due to personal reasons but he would be available to play for KXIP in the forthcoming IPL season.

On the other hand, Chris Gayle is one of the most successful batsmen in IPL history. The pugnacious batsman has scored 4484 runs in 125 IPL matches at an impressive average of 41.14 and a whirlwind strike rate of 151.03.

Gayle also holds the record of the fastest century in the IPL as he took only 30 balls to hammer a hundred against Pune Warriors India while playing for Royal Challengers Bangalore in IPL 2013. The left-hander went to score 175 runs, which is the highest individual score in the lucrative league.

Meanwhile, Kings XI Punjab became the first franchise to depart for the UAE on August 20. Punjab will be lead by KL Rahul, who will open the innings with Chris Gayle. This would be the first time when Rahul will lead the franchise whereas Anil Kumble is going to be the coach of the team.

The IPL is all set to begin from September 19 with Dubai, Sharjah, and Abu Dhabi to host all the matches.

IPL 2020: Shane Watson Looking Foward To Exciting Season With CSK

Chennai Super Kings all-rounder Shane Watson has reached Dubai, where he is all set to quarantine himself for one week. Watson took to his Twitter account to post a video and stated he is looking forward to having an exciting season with the three-time champions. The former Australian veteran has been an integral part of the franchise and he is going to play a crucial role in the upcoming season.

Watson added that he has a beautiful view of Burj Khalifa from his hotel room. The strongly built player stated that he would do some exercises in his room to keep himself at the top of his fitness before beginning outdoor training.

Shane Watson is going to hold the key

In fact, Watson didn’t have the best of the previous season for CSK as he was struggling to find his form. However, MS Dhoni and the team management kept their faith in him and the right-hander was able to deliver the goods in the final against Mumbai Indians.

Watson scored 80 runs from 59 balls and batted with an injured knee, which was covered in blood. However, his efforts went in vain as CSK went on to lose the match by one run.

Watson finished as the second-highest run-getter for the franchise as he scored 398 runs in 17 IPL matches at an average of 23.41.

“I am now quarantined for 7 days with a few COVID testing to make sure everything is okay. I am getting used to being in a room with plenty to do. I have got a beautiful view of the Burj Khalifa. I am going to be doing some exercises, walking up and down my room, listening to podcasts, plenty of T20 Stars stuff as well as my preparation, getting ready for the CSK training camp. I am so excited to be here for another IPL campaign,” Watson said in a video message.

CSK players will reach UAE on Friday. The IPL will begin on September 19.

RCB Could Be In The IPL Playoffs This Year – Aakash Chopra

Former Indian opener and now a cricket commentator Aakash Chopra feels Royal Challengers Bangalore could be in the IPL playoffs this year. Chopra had earlier stated that RCB can do well in the upcoming season of the tournament. Meanwhile, it has been three IPL seasons since the team has made their way into the last four of the tournament.

Virat Kohli-led team had last made it to the playoff stages back in IPL 2016 when they had finished as runners-up. Kohli had an outstanding edition as he had gone on to amass record 973 runs in the season. However, RCB hasn’t been consistent in the last three editions of the IPL and they would aim to turn the tables in the forthcoming competition.

RCB would aim to turn the tables

Chopra had earlier said that UAE conditions will suit RCB and they will be a team to watch out for. The team was able to get players like Chris Morris. Dale Steyn, Josh Phillipe, Kane Richardson and Aaron Finch in the IPL auction, and these players can help the side in getting the momentum.

RCB has been too reliant on the shoulders of Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers and they would want a collective team effort. Furthermore, their death bowling has been their Achilles Heel in many crucial matches.

Aakash Chopra said while talking on his YouTube Channel, “The RCB fans and Kohli fans will be happier because I feel that this season will be good for RCB. Their bowling will be better than before and their batting will do good.”

“Overall this season will be better than before. Earlier they used to fight for the wooden spoon but this year they will be in mid-table right from the beginning and they will challenge the top 4. I feel this time, if they play a proper XI, this team can go ahead and they could be in the playoffs is what I feel.”

Meanwhile, RCB is yet to savor success in the IPL and they have made it to the final on three occasions. The team would aim to come up with a collective team effort in the IPL.

The IPL will begin in the UAE from September 19 with Dubai, Abu Dhabi, and Sharjah to host all the matches of the 53-day event.

Wanted Ambati Rayudu To Be India’s Number Four For 2019 World Cup – Suresh Raina

Suresh Raina, who recently announced his international retirement, has stated that he wanted his Chennai Super Kings teammate Ambati Rayudu to be India’s number four for the 2019 World Cup. Rayudu had made a good case for himself before the ODI showpiece as he had come up with consistent performances. In fact, the right-hander was an integral part of the team for more than a year before the mega event.

Rayudu had impressed with his performances as he had scored 1694 runs in 55 ODIs at an impressive average of 47.06. Ergo, it was shocking to note his exclusion from the World Cup squad. However, Rayudu didn’t have the best of the IPL 2019 as he could only muster 282 runs in 17 innings at an average of 23.5 and thus he had to pay the price.

Ambati Rayudu was unlucky to miss out in the 2019 World Cup

Former Indian chief selector MSK Prasad went on to select an inexperienced Vijay Shankar for his 3-D skills. Furthermore, Rayudu was not given the chance when Shankar was ruled out of the World Cup due to toe injury as Rishabh Pant was named as the replacement.

Rayudu was frustrated at being left out of the World Cup squad and he went on to announce his retirement but later took a U-turn on the same. Meanwhile, Raina was picked for India’s tour of England in 2018 when Rayudu could not clear the Yo-Yo Test. Raina stated that he didn’t felt good about the same.

“I wanted Rayudu to be India’s number four because he was working very hard, playing almost one and half years. He performed really well and he wasn’t there. I didn’t enjoy the tour in 2018 because of the circumstances where Rayudu failed his fitness test. It didn’t feel good that I was picked as he failed,” Raina was quoted as saying in Cricbuzz.

Rayudu had the experience under his belt and it was a shocking decision from the selectors to leave him out of the World Cup team. The right-hander deserved his place and it could have been a different story altogether had he been part of the team. India’s bleak middle order was exposed in the semi-final contest against New Zealand as they crumbled like a pack of cards.

“He was good at number four. If he was part of the squad for the World Cup, we would have won the tournament. Rayudu was the best choice and as it’s the way he plays the game in the CSK. And he was batting really well in the camp in Chennai,” he added.

Both Suresh Raina and Ambati Rayudu would be seen playing together for CSK in the upcoming season of the IPL, all set to begin in the UAE from September 19.

Mohammad Abbas Reveals His Strategy Against Ben Stokes

Pakistan’s pack leader Mohammad Abbas has been a consistent performer for the team in the Test fold. Abbas is known to be right on the money with his line and length and he also hits the right areas to continuously breathe down the neck of the opposition batsman. Meanwhile, England’s talisman all-rounder Ben Stokes has been in the form of his life.

Stokes scored 363 runs in the three-match series against the West Indies and he was always going to be a big wicket for Pakistan. However, the southpaw batsman could not get going in the first Test against Pakistan at Old Trafford. Stokes has often shimmied down the track to disturb the line and length of the fast bowlers in the recent past.

Mohammad Abbas has been right on the money

However, Mohammad Abbas was focussed on bowling in the right areas when he got a chance to bowl at Stokes. The left-hander pranced down the track and Abbas was able to get the ball to move away slightly from round the wicket angle. It was a peach of a delivery from Abbas to hit the top of Stokes’ off-stump as he completely bamboozled the batsman.

“Ben Stokes is a big name in cricket right now. He is one of the world’s best allrounders, and he’s performed several times for his country. Before the game, we watched videos and analyzed how best to disrupt him. So we went around the wicket straightaway. I tried to bowl in the right areas, and he kept moving forward to try and disturb me. But my view is when a batsman comes forward, I am not disturbed by that. I feel I am disturbing the batsman by forcing him to move around the crease,” Abbas told Pakistan Cricket Board.

It was brilliant planning from Mohammad Abbas and he was able to execute his plans to perfection in the match as Stokes was dismissed without troubling the scorers. Abbas has scalped 80 wickets in 20 Test matches at an impressive average of 20.68.

Meanwhile, Ben Stokes went on to miss the second Test at Ageas Bowl, Southampton as he had to leave for Christchurch due to family reasons. Stokes will also miss the third Test at the same venue.

England leads the three-match series by 1-0 as they had won the first match by three wickets. The second Test match ended in a draw as rain and bad light frustrated the players. The third and final Test match will take place at the Ageas Bowl, Southampton from today.

Focus Will Be On Making Most Of The Training Sessions In UAE – Prithvi Shaw

Delhi Capitals opening batsman Prithvi Shaw has revealed that the aim of the franchise will be to make the most of training sessions in the UAE. It has been a long time since the players have been able to train outdoors and all the players will look to find their impetus. It is expected that the players will take time before they can hit the ground running. As all the teams will get one month to train before the IPL, it should be sufficient in getting them ready for the competition.

Meanwhile, Delhi Capitals were able to tick the right boxes in the previous season of IPL 2019. The franchise was able to make it to the playoff stages after six years as they came up with a collective effort. Consequently, they would aim to replicate their success.

Prithvi Shaw has shown all the right skills

Shaw didn’t have the best of the seasons though as he scored 353 runs in 16 matches at a meagre average of 22.06 and a strike rate of 133.71 including two fifties. Thus, the youngster would aim to turn the tables in the upcoming season for the club. Prithvi Shaw feels it is going to be challenging for all the players to get going in the IPL.

“We know people have a lot of expectations from us, but our focus will be on making the most of the training sessions we get in and re-creating that fantastic team environment which made us so successful last year. We also have the chance to gel with the new players and then set our sights on the IPL season,” ESPNcricinfo quoted Shaw as saying.

“There is no doubt that it will be a challenging trip for everyone involved. But like everyone else, I’ve spent these last few months focusing on my physical and mental health, and taking care of my family,” Shaw said.

“So the time I’ve managed to spend with them has put me in a positive frame of mind. However, this IPL will be a very different experience for all of us, and we need to make sure that we are all very positive when we hit the ground running. The key is to take one step at a time,” he added.

Prithvi Shaw has thus far played 25 IPL matches in which he has scored 598 runs at an average of 23.92 and a strike rate of 141.04. The prodigy right-hander has shown all the skills to go a long way in his career and he would aim to be consistent for the franchise.

The IPL will begin in the UAE from September 19 with Abu Dhabi, Sharjah, and Dubai to host all the matches.

James Anderson Wants More Leeway Over Bad Light Decisions

England veteran fast bowler James Anderson has called for more leeway over the bad light decisions of the standing umpires. The weather in Southampton has been gloomy and the rain and the bad light has interrupted the Test match on a regular interval. Anderson feels that the lights were decent when the play was called off on the second day.

Only 86 overs have been possible on the first two days of the Test match and it has been frustrating for the players who have to go in and out every time there is an interruption. Consequently, the players from both teams have not been able to find any impetus in the second Test.

James Anderson feels umpires should back the fielding side

Meanwhile, the standing umpires take the light reading and the standard reading is noticed when the players walk for the first time in the particular Test match. That standard reading is then set as the benchmark and whenever the same reading or below is noticed, the umpires decide to call off play.

“It was gloomy but it’s one of those when it didn’t seem like the batsmen were struggling too much. I don’t know what the reading was (at tea). Maybe there could be a bit more leeway there,” Anderson was quoted as saying by ‘The Guardian’.

“The light has been gloomy all day and we’ve been lucky to get the play we have. It did feel like the floodlights were pretty prominent. The umpires take their readings, we can only go off that so there’s nothing more we can do about that.”

Only 40.2 overs were possible on the second day’s play and the play was called off at 6:27 pm. However, Anderson’s bowling partner Stuart Broad had a different view on the matter.

“The officials were right to bring us off. It had dropped below the darkness that we had come off for earlier in the day and all of our fielders were saying: ‘We wouldn’t want to bat in this, this is quite dark’,” Broad told BBC.

Meanwhile, James Anderson was able to get the wicket of Yasir Shah on the second day when the right-hander flashed hard but could only manage an outside edge to Jos Buttler. Anderson now has 593 wickets and he is seven wickets away from becoming the first Test fast bowler to take 600 scalps.

Daren Sammy Eyeing International Comeback After Long Hiatus

Former West Indies captain Daren Sammy last played for his country back in 2016 when he led his team to glory in the T20 World Cup after beating England in the final. Subsequently, he turned out to play for World XI on the tour of Pakistan but didn’t get a chance to play for the West Indies. Sammy who is the only captain to lead his team to two T20 World Cup titles has revealed that he would be eyeing an International comeback.

Sammy, who is known for his pyrotechnics stated that the lockdown period has helped him reflect on certain things and he is now determined to come back. The former all-rounder has been in the news for his strong statements regarding the Black Lives Matter movement.

Daren Sammy hasn’t given up hope

The 36-year old still harbors hopes of making a comeback and he would like to tick the right boxes in the domestic circuit as well as different T20 leagues to catch the eyes of the selectors. Sammy will lead St Lucia Zouks in the upcoming Caribbean Premier League, which is all set to begin from August 18.

“I have had a lot of soul searching and reflection in the past few months. Anybody who”s been at home in the lockdown all these months would not have done justice to themselves if they didn’t glean over things,” Sammy was quoted as saying by Cricbuzz.

“I have not retired. I have not closed that door and if I take care of what I have to do for St. Lucia and get us to the playoffs along with my own very good performances that will certainly make selectors take notice of it,” the two-time T20 World Cup-winning captain said.

Sammy was dropped as captain in 2016 and could not break into the team since then. The right-hander will look to lead St Lucia Zouks from the front and impress one and all with his performances.

Daren Sammy has scored 587 runs in 68 T20I matches and has scalped 44 wickets. There is still a lot of time to go for the 2021 T20 World Cup and consistent performances in CPL can help Sammy make his way back into the national team.

Babar Azam Is A Really Class Player – Stuart Broad

England veteran fast bowler Stuart Broad has heaped praise on Pakistan Test vice-captain Babar Azam. Broad stated that Babar Azam is a really class player and it is evident by his strokeplay. Azam is a technically correct batsman and there is hardly any chink in his armor. The right-hander has shown the skills to go a long way in his career.

Babar Azam is often compared with the likes of Virat Kohli and Steven Smith and he has been a consistent performer for Pakistan. Former England captain Nasser Hussain and Michael Vaughan had recently stated that Azam should be part of the ‘fab four’.

Babar Azam

Babar Azam has shown all the right promise

On the other hand, Babar Azam was a crucial wicket for England on the second day’s play. The right-hander was dismissed by experienced Stuart Broad when he got an outside edge through to Jos Buttler. Azam scored 47 runs and he was getting into his groove to get a big score.

“Babar Azam is a really classy player which you can see by some of the shots he played….we knew he would be a big wicket and I was pleased to get him out,” Broad told BBC.

Stuart Broad has thus far scalped three wickets in the ongoing second Test match. The first two days have been interrupted by the rain and only 86 overs have been possible. Pakistan has scored 223-9 and the visitors’ wicket-keeper batsman Mohammad Rizwan scored a gutsy knock of unbeaten 60 after they were tottering at 126-5 on an opening day.

Meanwhile, Babar Azam had scored a fine knock of 69 runs in the first innings of the first Test match. Thus, the right-hander needs to convert his starts into substantial scores. The flamboyant batsman has been averaging around 65 in the last 18 months in the Test fold and he has done a fine job.

England currently leads the three-match series by 1-0 after winning the first match by three wickets.

Babar Azam will lead Pakistan in the upcoming T20I series against England.
