‘Hardik Pandya Can Be A Valuable Member Of The Indian Test Team Once He Starts Bowling’- Virender Sehwag

Former Indian opener, Virender Sehwag, has opened up on Hardik Pandya’s value in the Indian test team. Notably, Hardik Pandya has returned to India after the completion of the white-ball cricket in Australia.

The all-rounder has had fitness concerns with him ever since the 2019  Cricket World Cup came to a conclusion and since then, he has been on and off the team. The recent Australian summer was a bright one for him as he cemented his place in the Indian limited-overs side as a pure batsman.

Virender Sehwag Opens Up On Hardik Pandya’s Unavailability In The Test Series

The former Indian opener stated that the all-rounder might have already been a part of the Test squad if he was rolling his arm over.

“If he was bowling, then he would have been a part of the Test team,” Virender Sehwag stated.

He added that the junior Pandya might have asked the selectors not to include him in the Test squad as he is not bowling at the moment.

“It is possible Hardik Pandya might have told the selectors not to consider him for the Test matches as he is not bowling fit and that he will only play in the ODIs and T20Is and that he will join back his family,” Sehwag further said.

Sehwag Lavishes Praise On Hardik Pandya

Virender Sehwag pointed out that Hardik Pandya will be an integral member of the Indian Test team once he starts bowling as he can play the blazing knocks down the order.

“But no doubt when he starts bowling, he will be a crucial part of the Test team. Because the manner in which he bats in ODI cricket or T20Is, imagine if he starts scoring those quick runs at No.6 or No.7 in Test cricket, India will be in a good position to win Test matches,” Sehwag further stated.

“There is an importance of scoring quick runs in Test cricket as well as you give more time to your bowling unit to dismiss the other team,” Sehwag concluded.

The Indian team’s Test campaign against Australia will begin from December 17 as the first Test will get underway at the Adelaide Oval. The first Test will be a Day-Night Pink-Ball Test match, which will be the first Day-Night Test match between India and Australia.

‘MS Dhoni Has Won A World Cup’- Matthew Hayden While Picking The Most Impactful Indian Player Of The Decade In The ODIs

Former Australian legend Matthew Hayden has named MS Dhoni as the most influential Indian ODI player in the last decade. Hayden has also had the experience of playing alongside MS Dhoni as both these superstars represented the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) franchise in the IPL.

Dhoni is surely the most successful Indian captain in the history of the game as the former skipper has gone on to win a T20 World Cup in 2007, an ODI World Cup in 2011, and the Champions Trophy in 2013, becoming the only captain in world cricket to have all the 3 ICC trophies.

Matthew Hayden Names MS Dhoni As The Most Influential Indian ODI Player In The Last Decade

Matthew Hayden feels the tag should belong to Dhoni, given he led India to a World Cup win, which the former Australia batsman reckons is a milestone next to none.

“I think it’s really important and significant that MS Dhoni has won a World Cup and a Champions Trophy. That World Cup for me, that’s a real big milestone,” Hayden said on the Cricket Connected Show on Star Sports.

“I have mentioned it before we have played loads of cricket in the one-day format and I just feel that when it comes to being ready for a World Cup, you not only got to have a good leader but you also need to have a calm strong player in the middle order like he has,” Hayden added.

Dhoni Call It Quits From International Cricket Earlier This Year

MS Dhoni announced his retirement from international cricket on August 15 this year as he had been away from team India for a long while. The semi-final of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 went on to become Dhoni’s last game in the Indian colours.

Dhoni has however, continued playing in the IPL and he will continue to do so in the coming days as the veteran skipper has confirmed that he will play in IPL 2021 for the Men in Yellow and it will be interesting to see how his team bounces back after a humiliating outing in IPL 2020.

‘Virat Kohli Has Been India’s Most Impactful ODI Player In The Last Decade’- Sunil Gavaskar

Former Indian batting legend, Sunil Gavaskar has claimed that the current Indian skipper Virat Kohli has been the most impactful ODI player for team India in the last decade. Gavaskar stated that Kohli has won a staggering number of matches for the Men in Blue and that in itself makes him an obvious choice.

Virat Kohli made his debut for the India National Cricket Team in 2008 and ever since then, the young lad from Delhi has not looked back. Kohli has gone on to dominate world cricket in a never-seen-before fashion and his numbers speak for themselves.

Sunil Gavaskar Lauds Virat Kohli

“I think if you look as an individual, then certainly it’s got to be Virat Kohli, because if you look at the number of matches he’s won for India when India have been chasing big scores,” Gavaskar said on Star Sports’ show ‘Cricket Connected’.

“I look at the impact a player has had, and not just the runs or wickets that he has taken, and in that aspect, you have got to say that in this decade it really has been Virat Kohli who has had the most impact on the matches that India has won,” Gavaskar added.

Virat Kohli Has Been A Monster With The Bat In His Hand

Virat has played a total of 80 Test matches and scored 7240 runs at an average of 53.63. The Indian skipper also has 27 centuries, 7 double hundreds, and 22 half-centuries to his name in the longest format of the game. In the ODIs, the batting great has played 251 games and smashed 12040 runs at an average of 59.31, smashing 43 tons and 60 half-centuries.

Parthiv Patel Backs Wriddhimman Saha To Keep For India In The Test Series

Former Indian wicketkeeper-batsman Parthiv Patel has backed Wriddhiman Saha to keep wickets in Test cricket for the Indian team against Australia in the upcoming series. Parthiv announced his retirement from world cricket yesterday.

Notably, the Indian wicketkeeping conundrum has been going on for a very long time ever since MS Dhoni left the Indian colours last year in the 2019 Cricket World Cup. The Indian cricket team has failed to fill the void left by Dhoni and thus, the position has been debatable for more than 1.5 years.

Parthiv Patel Backs Wriddhiman Saha To Keep Wickets For India In Test Cricket

Parthiv Patel, who announced his retirement on Wednesday, picked India’s first-choice wicket-keeper for the upcoming Test series against Australia.

Parthiv put his weight firmly behind Saha and termed him the best keeper of India.

“I still believe in Test matches, your best keeper should play like Wriddhiman Saha for India. Yes, the skills change as per formats but I believe now, you have to be equally good keeper and batsman to play for India,” Parthiv said.

Steve Smith Opens Up On Virat Kohli’s Paternity Leave

“No doubt, it’s a big loss for India. Virat is a world-class player. I think you got to give him some credit, we all know how much he loves playing in Australia. But he is also a human being. He has got a life outside of cricket, a family that is starting,” Steve Smith told the press on Thursday.

“Credit to him for wanting to be there for the birth of his first child. We know how much he loves playing in Australia, how good he is, but like I said, credit should go to him for wanting to be there,” he added.

‘Matthew Wade Can Be A Makeshift Opener For Australia In The Test Series’- Michael Clarke

Former Australian skipper Michael Clarke has said that Matthew Wade can be a good option for Australia to open the innings against India in the upcoming Test series.

Like the Indian cricket team, the Kangaroos have also been marred with injuries. Their regular opener, David Warner has been ruled out of the first Test, owing to the groin injury he suffered in the second ODI against India.

Will Pucovski, another Australian opener who could have opened for the Kangaroos has suffered a concussion in the first unofficial Test match as he was hit dangerously on the head by Indian pacer Kartik Tyagi. This, Clarke believe Matthew Wade can open for Australia.

Michael Clarke Reckons Matthew Wade Can Open The Innings For Australia

With Cameron Green making a case for his selection with a hundred against India ‘A’, Clarke feels in that case Wade should be pushed up the batting order.

“If you’re going to pick (all-rounder) Cameron Green then you’ve got to find another spot for Wadey,” Clarke told AAP.

“He’s got to be in that starting XI but that could be anywhere in that team. That could be opening the batting if need be. I think Wadey can do that.”

‘We’ll Be Watchful Against Jasprit Bumrah’- Steve Smith Opens Up On Australia’s Plans Of Tackling The Indian Pacers

Former Australian skipper Steve Smith has opened up on Australia’s plans of tackling the Indian pacers in the upcoming Test series, especially Jasprit Bumrah. Bumrah has been one of the best fast bowlers in world cricket in the last couple of years.

Team India will be without the services of two of their key pacers which include Ishant Sharma and Bhuvneshwar Kumar as both the bowlers have been ruled out of the Australian tour as they are suffering from injuries sustained during IPL 2020.

Steve Smith Opens Up On Tackling Indian Pacers In The Test Series

“I don’t know if I will do anything specific but yeah (this will be the) first time I will have face him in long form cricket. But I think his skill sets won’t probably change too much. We know how he bowls,” Smith said.

“He has got a good pace. He has got that awkward action, very different to lot of people. You got to be pretty watchful all the time and he is a quality bowler,” said Smith on being asked if he has planned anything specific against Jasprit Bumrah for the Test series,” Steve Smith further stated.

Jasprit Bumrah Is Among The World’s Best: Steve Smith

“I am excited at coming up against him in this series. You like coming up against the best and he is certainly up there with them. They are a good line-up. Pretty experienced. Shami has played a lot of cricket, Jasprit Bumrah has played a reasonable amount of cricket,” Smith further said.

“He is a quality bowler. Whichever spinner they use, (Ravichandran)Ashwin or (Ravindra) Jadeja or Kuldeep (Yadav), I am not sure – we’ll wait and see, but they’ve all played a fair bit of cricket now,” said Smith.

“Their third quick hasn’t played as much cricket whoever they go with there. They are all good bowlers and yeah, we are going to be at our best as a batting group. This summer, we are going to beat them. Ishant Sharma is probably a big loss for them. He has obviously played a lot of cricket now and he is a good bowler. So yeah, maybe without him, their bowling attack may not be their strongest. I am sure they would have loved him to play,” he added.

‘Rishabh Pant Is At The Bottom Of The List’- Aakash Chopra Highlights Pant’s Role In The Indian Team

Former Indian batsman and cricket analyst, Aakash Chopra has opened up on Rishabh Pant’s position in the Indian team. Chopra has stated that Pant might have to wait as long as IPL 2021 to find a place back in the Indian team.

Rishabh Pant was excluded from the Indian limited-overs team and although he was included in the Test side but couldn’t find a place for himself in the first unofficial Test match against Australia A.

Aakash Chopra Highlights Rishabh Pant’s Position In The Indian Team

“It is a tough question. Rishabh Pant is standing last in the queue and at the bottom of the list of Indian wicket-keepers at the moment,” Aakash Chopra said.

The renowned commentator observed that Rishabh Pant could have been fielded as the sixth batsman in the first warm-up match against Australia A but it did not happen.

“The Indian team had one option, when we had the India A vs Australia A match, they could have played six batsmen instead of five. You could have got Wriddhiman Saha to keep wickets but play Rishabh for sure,” Chopra further stated.

Rishabh Pant Has Gone To Australia As A Tourist: Aakash Chopra

Aakash Chopra pointed out that four bowlers should have been able to handle the burden in a three-day encounter.

“Because if they had played him, there would have been only four bowlers but it was only a three-day match and they would not have had to bowl much, at least they would been able to see both of them bat,” Chopra further stated.
