Top 10 Female Boxers of all Time:
Women have participated in boxing for almost as long as the sport has existed. Women’s boxing goes back at least to the early 18th century when Elizabeth Wilkinson fought in London. Billing herself as the European Championess, she contested against both men and women.
Women’s boxing first appeared in the Olympic Games at a demonstration bout in 1904. The game received a significant boost when the Swedish Amateur Boxing Association sanctioned events for women in 1988. The British Amateur Boxing Association sanctioned its first boxing competition for women in 1997.
But it was not until 2012 London Olympics that the women got a taste of fighting at the biggest sporting extravaganza of the planet. The times have changed now and the future looks bright for the female boxers.
