He has been a sensational all-rounder for New Zealand. He retired from cricket in 2006 due to a chronic knee problem but since then, life has been tough for Cairns. He was caught up in a perjury trial in relation to his libel trial in 2012 against Lalit Modi, the founder of the IPL.

Following the court cases, he was seen working in bus shelters and driving trucks for the Auckland Municipal Council as well as working in a bar. Cairns’ situation is a bad one and it is still going on.
