India’s first win in Test cricket dates back to 1952 in Madras (now Chennai) against England. Vijay Hazare was the Test captain but it was the 12-wicket haul of Vinoo Mankad which completely destroyed England.

14) Sunil Gavaskar and his masterclass (1971)Indian_Cricket

During the 1971 tour of West Indies, Gavaskar was on riot. Despite West Indies’ deadliest bowling attack in the world and lethal batting India exceeded all the expectations and went on to win the five-match series 1-0. It was Sunil Gavaskar’s outstanding performance with the bat that stood out. Sunny scored 774 runs in the series with his best being 220.

13) Historic win over Australia at Eden Gardens (2001)

Indian_CricketAfter winning the opening test match in Mumbai Australia was on course to victory  in Kolkata as well. But what the cricketing world witnessed after India was forced to follow on was an absolute brilliance from VVS Laxman and Rahul Dravid. Their heroics bailed India out of the trouble and along with Harbhajan Singh ensured India won the test and level the series 1-1.
