2014-15 Ranji Trophy- First Round, Day 3 Report: Yuvraj Singh’s ton takes Punjab closer to victory
India’s dashing southpaw and the player of the tournament in the 2011 World Cup Yuvraj Singh proved a point to the selectors for dropping him from the 30 men Indian probables for the 2015 World Cup by scoring a 160 ball 130 for Punjab on day 4 of their first round Ranji Trophy match against Haryana at Patiala. Yuvraj backed up his 59 in the first innings with a well compiled century and put he hosts on the brink of victory going into the final day with just 7 wickets away from victory. Haryana, on the other hand need 295 runs to win with 7 wickets. Sandeep Sharma was the wrecker in chief by picking up all the three Haryana wickets with just 26 runs on the board.
Scores: Haryana 283 and 26-3 (Sachin Rana 15*, Sandeep Sharma 3-13) need 295 runs to beat Punjab 273 and 330-6 dec (Yuvraj Singh 130, Amitoze Singh 65, Nitin Saini 2-35) with 7 wickets in hand.
In other matches, Assam defeated Tripura by 10 wickets, Delhi is inching towards an innings victory, Karnataka makes a comeback and has an upper hand over Tamil Nadu at Bengaluru.
