2017 Champions Trophy: “I Know His Ability, Virat KohlI Will Be Among Runs In Champions Trophy,” Says Kapil Dev

Kapil Dev, the former Indian allrounder is not one of those who is concerned with the current poor form of Virat Kohli as he has said that the Indian skipper will be among runs in the upcoming Champions Trophy, where Indian team is going as the defending champions,

“It (Kohlis form) should not be (a worry). I know his ability and talent. He will bounce back. I dont see any reasons (why) he will not be among the runs. He is an important player (for the team) and if he starts getting runs, then the whole team gets motivated. If your captain starts getting runs, its the best thing that happens,” Kapil Dev told PTI.

Kapil’s comment has come after Kohli’s poor form in Test series against Australia and IPL 2017. He was the star for Indian team right from the start of the home season but faced a form slump during the Test series against Australia as he could just manage to score 46 runs in three Test matches he played in the series.

In IPL as well, the Indian skipper could just score 308 runs in 10 games, which are quite low keeping in mind his last year’s form where the RCB captain smacked 973 runs at an average of 81.08. In addition to it, he could not carry the team as RCB finished the tournament as the last placed team with just three wins in 14 games.

This has certainly raised questions over Kohli’s ability but Kapil Dev thinks the other way as he is confident of Kohli coming back in form before the start of the ICC tournament.

Along with that, he also expressed surprise over success of Jasprit Bumrah as according to him, the strange action could have gone against the bowler but he has driven it in his favour,

“When I saw Bumrah for the first time, I never expected (that he will rise). He has such a strong mind! When your action is not so clean, it is difficult to manage to bowl such good bowling line and length, yorkers. He has the strength within himself. Whatever he wants to do, he can do. His mindset is better than anything else and I have started respecting him much more than what I had seen on the first day when he played an ODI match,” he added.

Both Kohli and Bumrah are an important part of team India as Kohli will lead Indian’s batting line up whereas Bumrah’s inclusion in the playing XI is confirmed ahead of any other bowler. Bumrah will be the key for the Indian team as he has an opportunity to reap benefits from the conditions in England. In addition to that, his strange action will also be an advantage for the team.
