Sourav Ganguly (IND) (c)

Sourav Ganguly will lead this star-studded side. There were two other options for this role – Ricky Ponting and MS Dhoni. Ponting has won the Champions Trophy twice, the most by any skipper while Dhoni has won it in 2013.
However, both achieved it after gaining much experience as leaders. Ganguly, on the other hand, helped India finish as the runners – up in 2000 and the joint winners in 2002 as a young skipper with limited knowledge of playing at multi-nation tournaments.
Also, his contributions as a batsman were also critical during those years. 665 runs in just 13 matches in the tournament overall justifies the fact.
