2017 ICC Champions Trophy: Bangladesh Is A Matured Side, Knows How To Win Games – Virat Kohli

India and Bangladesh are all set to take on each other in the 2nd semi-final of the Champions Trophy 2017 at the Edgbaston Cricket Ground, Birmingham.

The clash was highly unexpected but things panned out in such a manner that both the Asian rivals now find themselves on the same page vying for a place in the finals. India obviously will start as the stronger team. But, Virat Kohli isn’t taking anything lightly.

Kohli said the team automatically enters a different zone ahead of big knock-out matches and no one requires extra motivation to perform well.

India hasn’t been up to their dominant best during the group stages. After thrashing Pakistan in the tournament opener, India inflicted a shock defeat at the hands of Sri Lanka before finally going through to the semis with a win over South Africa.

“Group stage matches are difficult as you have to play three teams but once you get through to the knock-outs, the team enters a different zone,” said the India skipper during the pre-match press conference on the eve of the match.

“My thinking always remains the same and I always try to win games for my country. My mindset don’t change much and I always try to keep things simple,” said Kohli.

Kohli has made it clear that he will be going in with a do-or-die attitude.

“We are not taking things for granted and will look to use the momentum that we built in the group stage. We are going to treat this match as the last match and our mindset will not change,” said Kohli.

Bangladesh has grown leaps and bounds as a cricket team in the past couple of years. So far, everyone knows that they aren’t the same underdogs that used get thrashed in multi-nation events. The Mashrafe Mortaza side is heading into the game with a stunning win over a stronger New Zealand side in the final Group A fixture. Apart from this, they already have memorable series wins over teams like Pakistan and South Africa including India.

“Bangladesh has become a bigger side now and they have vastly improved their cricket. A lot of good players are coming into their team. They are a very dangerous side and everyone realises that,” said Kohli.

“They are amongst the top eight teams in the world now and they have very passionate cricketers in their ranks. The way they applied themselves in the match against New Zealand in the group stage was outstanding. They are a mature side who knows how to win matches from difficult situations,” he added.

Apart from semis, the upcoming match is also significant for another reason. Veteran Yuvraj Singh is all set to become the only fifth Indian to play 300 ODIs. The southpaw made his debut 17 years ago in the same tournament (it was known as the ICC Knockouts Trophy then) and is now arguably one of the greatest all-rounders in limited overs format for India.

“Yes, it will be a magnificent achievement. Obviously, you have to be super-skilled to be able to play that many matches for the country and no one has ever as any doubts over the ability that he possess to win games and he done in big tournaments.

“Tomorrow is a big game as well and we hope that we wins the match for us. Two man of the tournaments in World Cups and India winning both of them. Personally in his life as well he has fought with bigger battles and that is a proof of character that he possesses,” said Kohli.
