Michael Vaughan might have played around a decade at the highest stage of the game but the former England skipper, it seems, was clearly unaware of how much the subcontinental fans love their cricket teams. And Vaughan got a taste of it when some of his tweets regarding the ICC Champions Trophy match between India and Sri Lanka did not go down well with the fans from either nation.
Despite posting a daunting 321, India’s frontline bowlers could not put pressure on the Sri Lankan batsmen and with the island nation cruising in their run chase, Vaughan took a dig at the Men in Blue when their skipper Virat Kohli came out to bowl.
“You know when Virat has a bowl your team are up sh#t Creek !!!!! #CT17 #INDvSL,” he tweeted.

But to his dismay, a wicket fell in that very over when Danushka Gunathilaka was run-out which brought an end to a magnificent 159-run stand between him and Kusal Mendis. And although it was not Kohli’s wicket, the fans did not waste time in tweeting some choicest abuse for the ex-England star.
Abuses, meanwhile, did not infuriate Vaughan but instead amused him.
“The abuse you get on here from Indian Fans for being slightly critical about their team for losing a game they should win is very amusing!,” he tweeted.

But the cricketer-turned-commentator soon realised that the Indian fans are nothing compared to their Sri Lankan counterparts when it comes to abuse.
After India had finished their innings, Vaughan had backed the Virat Kohli-led side to win the match quite comfortably by tweeting that he was not seeing the island nation scoring more than 260.
“Can’t see Sri Lanka getting beyond 260 ….. #INDvSL #CT17.”

But as soon as Sri Lanka chased down the total, the Sri Lankan fans did not hesitate in trolling Vaughan and the former cricketer soon realised how good the fans are at abusing.
“But to fair to Indian Fans the Sri Lankan fans are even better at abuse …. just because I got a prediction wrong … !!! Keep em coming ,” he tweeted.
