Former Australian ace leg-spinner Shane Warne revealed himself in a new avatar after losing a bet against ex-Indian skipper Sourav Ganguly when the latter vouched for the national side Australia against Ashes rivals England, in the highly-anticipated clash at the Edgbaston on June 10.
Keeping his promise, Warne joined the commentary box during the India versus Bangladesh semi-final clash while donning the jersey of old rival England.
“@SGanguly99 You won the bet mate, so here I am wearing the England shirt & yes I’m in a world of hurt!,” Warne posted on Twitter.
The former left-handed batsman Ganguly was in favour of England which further saw Warne without an inch of doubt calling out for Steven Smith side after his national side was blemished by first two matches of the Group A fixtures against New Zealand and Bangladesh respectively.
Batting first, Australia posted 277 for nine in fifty allotted overs, before England emerge victorious by 40 runs on Duckworth-Lewis Method when they were 240 for four in 40.2 when skies opened up which further saw a blistering century from Ben Stokes after Australian bowlers gave a breezy start in overcast conditions which further saw the hosts reeling at 33 for three in 5.4 overs.
Interestingly, the 47-year-old Victoria-born spinner Warne took to photo-blogging website Instagram while revealing he was ‘hurt’ after putting on English colours.
“I’m in a world of hurt wearing this shirt right now, but [bet is] a bet so on with the England shirt,” Warne wrote whilst posting a photograph.
However, skipper Eoin Morgan, Ben Stokes knitted a match-winning 159-run stand for the fourth wicket.
Warner, who has claimed 708 wickets in 145 Tests and 293 wickets in 194 ODIs took his colleagues by surprise, as ICC’s Twitter handle came with their tweet which was followed by different reactions from the followers and his fans in general.
“Here’s a sight you thought you’d never see!,” tweeted ICC with Warne’s photograph, who seemed uncomfortable while posing for a photograph.
With an emoticon of a weary face, Warne replied to ICC Digital handle of microblogging site Twitter by revealing more is on cards.
“Unfortunately there’s more to come!,” Warne replied.
The 44-year-old Ganguly has featured in 311 ODIs in which he smashed 11,363 runs followed by 7,212 runs in 113 Tests.
