2017 ICC Champions Trophy: Despite The Final Fumble, Virat Kohli Proud Of Indian Team 1

The sixth most watched event turned out to be the top most upset for the Indian fans. A team, which they defeated in the group stage rebounded back strongly and defeated India for the third time in the only ICC tournament where they have done this.

For all the Bungle, Indian team is itself to be blamed as missed opportunities, oodles of extra runs and being flattened in front of the swing of Amir Khan right from the start to give Pakistan an upper hand, were the highlights of the day, on which Pakistan cashed upon and dispersed maximum of the benefits to defeat India by a margin of 180 runs.

Whole batting line-up is to blamed more than the bowling as skipper Virat Kohli, keeping in mind the result of the game against Sri Lanka, decided to bowl first and 339 was a chase-able total by any means. However, few fumbles whilst the first innings of the game followed by a poor show from batsmen saw the Indian team surrendering in front of strong Pakistan bowling and lose the game, failing to defend the Champions Trophy. Never during the chase, India seemed to be in the game.

Despite the loss, Indian skipper Virat Kohli was proud of the team for qualifying for the finals of the tournament. Here is what the Indian skipper said after the loss against Pakistan –

Virat Kohli: “Indeed (disappointing). Congos to Pakistan. The way they turned things around, it was amazing. They can upset anyone on their day. I have a smile on my face because I am very proud of the boys. Credit to Pakistan; they outplayed us. They were more intense and more passionate. With the ball, we could have had more wicket-taking opportunities. Sometimes, the opposition does play very well. Even with the ball, they were very aggressive. Hardik played well. Small margins can be massive in cricket (on the no ball that Fakhar got out to). We need to move on and learn from our mistakes. Not at all (if he should have opted to bat at the toss)”
