2017 ICC Champions Trophy: England Vs Australia – Match Prediction

In a quest to qualify for the next round, Australian cricket team will take on England – who have already qualified for the semi-finals – in the last Group A game. Australia has an uphill task ahead of them as already they are yet playing a complete full fledged game, which has kept them limited to certain options.

In the first game, the rain came as a boon for them when they were three down with a score of 53 when the target was still 182 runs away and rain prevented them from a loss. In the next game, they were quite close to winning the contest, when rain poured down. In short, they can’t really complain.

For England, it’s an opportunity to continue their winning run and stamp a win as a loss here will pull down their confidence ahead of the big semi-final.

Overview:

England – A rejuvenated England side can make some changes to the side like they did in the Lord’s ODI against South Africa when they used their bench strength. Though they lost the game every player got an opportunity and they did well. Jonny Bairstow rescued the erstwhile struggling batting line-up. Still, the skipper has to ensure that the game doesn’t slip from their hands as if this happens, then it will be a real trouble for them. They have to make changes in the side keeping in mind that it should not have an impact on the result of the game.
Australia – It’s a do or die game for Kangaroos. A win here will not just get them to the next round but will also rule out both New Zealand and Bangladesh out of the tournament but if they falter, then it will be all over for them. If this happens, then they can be termed as an unlucky team because as mentioned earlier, they are yet to play their complete game, barring only one practice game.
They have a tough task to jump par England, the strongest of the team in this tournament so far.

Tracking the strength:

England – Both the departments of the home side look for the best touch and ready to produce the goods, which they ‘ve shown as well. After leaking 305 runs against Bangladesh, batsmen chased it down to show that it was an easy pitch to bat on and when defending a total of 310, they bundled out New Zealand on a score of 223, to go in the next round.

Both the departments are perfectly stacked up to go in the big round but before that, they have a preparatory game against Australia.

Australia – It has been mixed journey for Australia looking at their performance with bat and ball.  Both have been given partial opportunities to prove their worth. They have brawny bowling line-up who can easily clean England batsmen. The bowlers will have the main task to stop them at any cost, or else, either Bangladesh or new Zealand will make it to the next round.
Match Prediction –

If England continue to retain the same squad, then it will be an onerous task for Australia to post a win and in this case, England will go in the next round with an undefeated streak in the tournament but if the host side decides to bench their master players for this contest, then Australia will have a slot to adjust themselves and sneak into the next round.

England are the favourites for this contest.
