VVS Laxman, the former India batsman has come in support of Indian government’s decision to cancel any talks of bilateral series with Pakistan, as he has said it is important to respect government’s decision regarding boycotting Pakistan in bilateral series,

“I have always enjoyed playing against Pakistan. But it is very important to respect whatever decision the government takes because it is beyond sport at the moment,” he said.

Laxman’s statement has come after Vijay Goel, the Sports Minister of India said there are no chances of India and Pakistan resuming their bilateral ties. It was in the year 2012/13 when Pakistan last travelled to India to play three matches ODI series.

Since then, both the sides are yet to play any bilateral series despite the fact that both were scheduled to play six bilateral series in past three years as per the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed by both the countries.

It has been the terrorist activities from the neighbouring country which has been the main reason behind India boycotting Pakistan. PCB has always cried foul play but it is a fact that whenever India try to resume the ties between two countries, there has been a violation from the other side of the border which has created tensions between the two countries.

Despite all this, both the countries though, face each other in ICC events. In fact, Pakistan travelled to India last year to participate in the T20 World Cup 2016.

Recently, both PCB and BCCI tabled a meeting to resume the bilateral ties between the two nations but all the efforts were in vain, as there was no output from that meeting.

Though both the countries will face each other in Champions Trophy on June 4 at Edgbaston.
