2017 ICC Champions Trophy: Outplayed By England, No Role Of Pay Dispute In Elimination – Darren Lehmann

After suffering a 40-run tournament ending loss against formidable England on the basis of Duckworth Lewis Method, Australian team became the focus of attention for the home media, as head coach Darren Lehmann has categorically denied any role of the impasse taking place between Australian Cricketers’ Association resulting in the Kangaroos elimination from the ongoing 2017 ICC Champions Trophy.

“That’s going on behind the scenes – it can probably come to the forefront now that we’ve finished. They’ll get down to that and sort that out,” Lehmann was quoted as saying by ESPNcricinfo.

Interestingly, Australia had to rely on two points after witnessing the two washed out games against arch-rivals New Zealand and then Bangladesh.

The former Australia batsman Lehmann stated they were focusing on cricket as the two-decade-old payment model’s Memorandum of Understand is expiring on June 30.

“No excuses from our point of view on the MoU,” Lehmann said.

The ongoing payment dispute has also created the ruckus in Australia which has further witnessed players registering their opinions.

“It’s always there. It’s the elephant in the room. It’s always going to be talked about,” Lehmann revealed about the payment dispute.

The stalemate between the cricket board and players’ association has been continuing since past couple of months which has further caused inconvenience to the players.

“From a playing point of view, you’re out there, surely you’re not thinking about the MoU when you’re batting or bowling. I wouldn’t think that would have affected the players’ performance at all,” Lehmann maintained.

Warner earlier was livid with the national board’s release of a video when Australia was participating in the eight-nation tournament.

“We were just outplayed. We were probably 30 or so short with the bat. Credit to England, they bowled well, but I think we helped them a bit in the back end of our innings,” Lehmann asserted.

As Australia will kick-off their preparations for their upcoming fixtures, it would be interesting to see whether both the factions would reach out the result which is expected to favour both the parties.

“We certainly want to get back to playing brave cricket. I don’t think we were brave enough or smart enough in this tournament,” Lehmann concluded.

However, if the fresh MoU would not be signed it’s expected that the players might get dropped from the contract owing to the result.

Lehmann stated has further hailed England skipper Eoin Morgan and Ben Stokes while stating he was disappointment with the approach they’ve gone as rain has played a spoilsport for the Men in Yellow.
