2017 ICC Champions Trophy: Pakistan Announces 12-Man Temporary Team Against India

The team management of Men in Green on Saturday has revealed their 12-member team for the high-voltage clash on Sunday, as the two arch-rivals from Asia; India and Pakistan are ready to wrestle thousands of miles away from their respective countries, in their Group B opening match of the 2017 ICC Champions Trophy at Edgbaston on packed Sunday.

However, the squad is subject to the condition, as Pakistan Head Coach Mickey Arthur himself has revealed they could make a change, or so while accessing the conditions ahead of the encounter.

As millions of fans are ready to watch their heroes giving their best on the field, both the teams have had gone through rigorous training throughout past couple of days, as the tickets were sold-out hours after being put on sale.

“We have a lot of faith and a lot of confidence,” Arthur was quoted as saying by Dawn during a press conference in Birmingham.

The announcement further came as a surprise to many, as premier left-arm fast bowler Junaid Khan wasn’t named among the first 12 players on Saturday, who are likely to feature against Virat Kohli-led India.

The other two players, who have been left out are left-handed batsman Haris Sohail and promising prospect Fakhar Zaman. The 27-year-old Swabi-born fast bowler Junaid had a success against batting mainstay of India Virat Kohli, as he has claimed his wicket thrice in four matches which further saw former scoring just two of 22 deliveries while facing the latter in the recent past at the dismal average of 0.67.

However, strongly-built Kohli is sort of a player, who could anchor the innings all the way to see his team posting a fighting total on the board. Junaid Khan, who has been working hard on his bowling, has claimed eight wickets against India, in his five matches which further saw his overall record of playing 58 ODIs, in which he has claimed 86 wickets at an average of 28.94.

It’s highly likely Mohammad Hafeez will open the innings alongside Ahmed Shehzad, as experienced campaigner Azhar Ali is expected to come at number three position, in a bid to anchor the innings for Pakistan.

On the bowling front, left-arm fast bowler Mohammad Amir will spearhead the pace battery alongside Wahab Riaz and there could be a toss-up between Fahim Ashraf and Junaid Khan if they relied on the pitch conditions, as Hasan Ali becomes an ideal choice for being a skiddy customer.

Temporary 12-member team:

Sarfraz Ahmed (Skipper/Wk), Ahmed Shehzad, Azhar Ali, Babar Azam, Shoaib Malik, Fahim Ashraf, Hasan Ali, Imad Wasim, Mohammad Amir, Mohammad Hafeez, Shadab Khan and Wahab Riaz.
