2017 ICC Champions Trophy: Pakistan Vs England – Pakistan Player Ratings

Pakistan registered the biggest upset of Champions Trophy 2017 by defeating mighty England in the semi-final contest, to become the first team to qualify for the final of the tournament. At one stage, they weren’t even good enough to qualify for the knockouts but they stunned everyone by earning an opportunity to play in the final.

Pakistan rode on collective performances from all the players which saw them getting to the final. On the other hand, it was not the case with England, which saw them being ruled out even after being tagged as favourites for the tournament.

Let’s have a look and analyse performance of Pakistan players by looking at their contribution in the semi-finals –

Azhar Ali 4/5 –

A good start, what was needed from Pakistan to see off this target and they got it, thanks to Azhar Ali and his partner Fakhar Zaman. Azhar though stayed there for long, to put his team on the brink of a  win. It looks like he is a more calm and composed batsman since the day he has been discharged of captaincy duties. The former Pakistan skipper gets a rating of five on five for his brilliant performance against England.

Fakhar Zaman  4/5 –

The powerful shots he played clearly shows that he is a Navy-man. Zaman, who attended the navy camp for one year, has shown hard fought spirit in the game and has ensured that Ahmed Shehzad is sidelined for a good period of time as he is doing well with the bat and has scored runs with the bat, watching Pakistan winning the games and qualifying for the semi-final stage.

Babar Azam 3.5/5 –

Till the time he came to the crease, the openers had already done well to keep England out of the game but still, he took his time to avoid any sort of fumble at that stage. Playing a composed innings of 38*, Babar sharpened his skills against quality England pace attack, to go high in the next game.

Mohammad Hafeez 4/5 –

Though he didn’t get any wicket but also did not leak runs. Bowling at an economy rate of 4.12, Hafeez gave only 33 runs in eight overs to keep Pakistan in the game. Apart from that, he also got back in form with innings of 31* of 21, which included three fours and two sixes.

Shoaib Malik N/A –

Malik neither bowled nor came out to bat, hence, it’s difficult to compute his contribution to the game.

Sarfraz Ahmed 4/5 –

Winning the toss and opting the ball first was his decision which meant that Pakistan had to chase the target put up by England. The critics had already written off this team looking at their depleted performances when they get behind the target but bowlers did not let his captain down and restricted England to a score of 211, to chase it later in the evening and hand England an upset, to qualify for the next round.

Imad Wasim 3/5 –

In five overs he bowled, Imad Wasim helped his team to slow down the run-rate of England at a time when they were craving for runs. In the end, his contribution was quite productive and England could not notch up a big total.

Rumman Raees 3/5 –

Coming in the team as a replacement of Wahab Riaz and being handed debut in the semi-final, it was the toughest stage one could have asked for. But instead of sinking down, Raees shone with the ball grabbing two wickets in nine over he bowled. In his third over of the game, he took the wicket of Alex Hales, to give a big blow to England.

Shadab Khan 3/5 –

Shadab Khan was dropped from the side in the previous game and when brought back, he scalped the big wicket of none other than Joe Root, to dent England at a time when they were on a road to comeback but the 18-year old youngster got crucial wicket, a wicket to remember for him.

Hasan Ali 5/5 –

The Man of the Match award and his bowling figures are enough to tell his performance in the game. The right arm pacer grabbed three wickets at cost of just 35 runs, to keep England team away all day round and get Pakistan an opportunity to play one last game.

Junaid Khan 4/5 –

He along with Raees had a good opening partnership with the ball to give Pakistan a good start, later, on which, other bowlers cashed upon by not leaking runs and getting England out on the mere score of 211, an easy total to chase for Pakistan.
