2017 ICC Champions Trophy: Sri Lanka Vs South Africa Match – Match Prediction

Sri Lanka and South Africa are two of the strongest sides in ICC tournaments.

The former one always enters in a big event with the tag of the contenders to win the cup but always stutter at crucial stages, whereas, the Lankan team performs well in ICC tournaments despite one not expecting that sort of show from them.

Sri Lanka has qualified for the finals of two out of last three 50 overs World Cups and has also won a T20 World Cup, without being favourites. This time again, they would have no issue in coming with a badge of underdog around the neck, as captain Angelo Mathews reckoned.

Proteas, on the other side, will have to overcome own issues that prevail in their side.

Overview –

Sri Lanka – Already coming in with the tag of underdogs, Sri Lankan team has a big challenge ahead of in the tournament due to the lack of experience in their side. There are no Kumar Sangakkara and Mahela Jayawardene to guide the side. Hardly any batsmen in the team look who can match their feet, which will be quite crucial if the team has to find success here.

In bowling as well, there is a lack of experience apart from Lasith Malinga. Plus an injury concern to Angelo Mathews has added to the woes, as the success of the team heavily depends on him and if the skipper misses the first game, then it might be a difficult road for them ahead.

South Africa – Despite the mass exodus of few players to Kolpak, this side looks one of the best sides in the tournament and also the best side to win the trophy. Starting from Hashim Amla to Quinton de Kock to AB de Villers and Faf du Plessis in the middle, hardly anyone can doubt the batting of the side. No concerns can be raised on the batting of this team with likes of David Miller and Chris Morriss as well who can accelerate innings in the end.

Talking of bowling, the Kagiso Rabada led pace attack is best in the tournament. They have the experience of Morne Morkel, who can guide the youngsters.

All in all, they have their all the basis covered and hardly we can spot any weakness in the team’s lineup apart from the challenge which they will face in the tournament.

Tracking the strength –

Sri Lanka – The young guns which they have in their side and the surprising factor with which they are coming in their biggest strength. Along with it, the bowling of Lasith Malinga is one of their strengths. On any day, he can turn the game on his own, like we have seen in past. Still, the team need to get the support from all the players so as to stun South Africa.

South Africa – Looking at all departments, the strength of the side lies everywhere due to the presence of all the performing elements in the side. The players need to just click the right button at the right time so as everything falls into place. From batting to bowling, every aspect of this team seems to be stacked up neatly and ready to go.

Match Prediction –

The South African team is expected to have a major say in the game and going by the line-up, they are favourites for this game. The main reason for this is inexperience in Lankan side and also the lack of powerhouse who can turn the game for them.
