Steven Finn has been called as a replacement for all-rounder Chris Woakes in the England squad for their remaining matches of ICC Champions Trophy.
Woakes got injured during the first game against Bangladesh, where he left the field after bowling only two overs. A side strain meant that he was ruled out of the full tournament.
The England and Wales Cricket Board waited for a couple of days to announce his replacement and finally called in the experienced pacer.
Finn was not originally the part of the, as Mark Wood made his way back in the team. Finn though was part of the ODI series against Ireland and was later called in for the Lord’s ODI against South Africa, where England rested three of their key players due to injury concerns, Woakes being one of them.
Though Finn went wicketless there but impressed in the two outings with England Lions against South Africa A, where he scalped a total of five wickets.
Stuart Broad and Toby Roland-Jones were the other contenders to replace Woakes but Finn was preferred over them. There might be a case where the tall pacer straightaway walks in the side to replace Woakes.
England takes on New Zealand and Australia in their next two games. The runner-up of the last tournament defeated Bangladesh in their first game of the tournament by chasing a big target of 306.
