- 2011 World Cup Semi-finals (Mohali):
The World Cup returned to the sub-continent after 15 long years and the excitement was at its peak. Indian players were determined to win the world cup for their biggest superstar and for the definition of cricket in the nation – Sachin Tendulkar.
India got off to an absolute flier with Sachin-Sehwag adding 48 in just 5.5 overs. Sehwag played a brilliant cameo, scoring 38 off 25 deliveries. Things slowed down for India after losing Sehwag, as the middle order didn’t quite support Tendulkar. But Sachin played the anchor role throughout the innings and scored a match winning 85.
He was helped by Pakistan’s poor fielding and disgraceful catching. Raina played an important cameo and India ended up with a fighting total of 260.
Pakistan started their chase pretty well. At one stage they were 103/2 and looked to be on their way. But soon after spinners came into play they were reduced to 150/6 and what followed was a mere formality. All five bowlers used by India ended up picking two wickets each. Sachin Tendulkar was awarded the Man of the Match for his 85. India went on to win the world cup by beating Sri Lanka in the finals a few days later.
