- South Africa – 21 matches:
The winners of the inaugural edition in 1998, RSA has played 21 matches in this event and stand at the fifth position. As a team, the Proteas have achieved decent success in the ICC Champions Trophy and have always done well.
The rainbow nation even hosted the 2009 edition after Pakistan was stripped off its rights in 2008. Making it to the semi-finals in 2000, 2002, 2006 and 2013, the Proteas haven’t quite capitalised on their starts.
Considering their form this time around, the AB de Villiers-led side is easily among the favourites and are currently the number one ranked team in the ICC ODI Team Rankings.
