The Kangaroos got off to a very slow start in this ICC event but took off for good in the mid-2000’s, as they won the successive editions in 2006 and 2009, in India and South Africa, respectively.
On both occasions, it was under the leadership of Ricky Ponting which drove Australia to glory. In 21 games, the Aussies have won 12 encounters but were winless in the previous edition of 2013.
The last edition was an embarrassment for the Kangaroos, as the side failed to win even a single game. With Steven Smith now at the helm of affairs, this present Aussie outfit looks far more competent and championship worthy.
