2017 ICC Champions Trophy: Two Indo-Pak Games On June 18?
The ongoing ICC Champions Trophy began on a blistering note for the Indian and Pakistani fans as the two arch rivals locked horns against each in Edgbaston. As expected, every part of the stadium was flocked with fans who must have been harbouring hopes of seeing another classic encounter between the two great rivals. However, Pakistan was no match for India as the defending champions hammered the Men in Green by 124-runs to prove their title credentials.
Every Indo-Pak game holds great importance not only for the players but also for the fans of either nation and the rarity of this fixture in recent times has elevated its importance to an all-time high. The bilateral ties between India and Pakistan are currently stalled due to the escalating political tensions and so the two teams play against each other only in Asia Cup and ICC events. And with no other ICC event in near future, the fans must have been thinking that they would have to wait for a good period of time before seeing the two bitter rivals taking on each other.
Well, if the matches go in both the team’s favour, the fans can see them in action just after a few days. India has already made it to the semifinal and are very much likely to take on Bangladesh in the semifinal. On the other hand, Pakistan will have to beat Sri Lanka in their final group game to make it to the last four where they are likely to face hosts England. And if both the teams manage to win their semifinal matches, the fans will see not one but two Indo-Pak games on the same day, that is June 18.
The first one is the final of the Champions Trophy and the second one will be a hockey match where India will take on Pakistan in the Hockey World League Semifinal. So if everything goes well for both the teams, the fans are in for a great time.
