After Rohit Sharma was caught by Thisara Perera at long leg, Virat Kohli came to crease with oodles of expectations on his shoulders. Just like in the game against Pakistan, he was seen struggling at the start and this time, he could not recover from that rough start and was dismissed on a duck, after he edged one to Niroshan Dickwella off Nuwan Pradeep.
It was a perfect ploy from Pradeep to dismiss Kohli as right from the start, he was bowling outside off-stump to the Indian skipper and ball by ball, he brought it a bit close towards the batsman. Along with it, he also pulled the length of the ball a bit towards himself and then he executed his plan by bowling a delivery a bit more towards Kohli, enticing him to play it. The batsman tried to play it towards third man but instead, it took the edge of Kohli’s bat before landing safely in the hands of wicket-keeper.
With this, Kohli was dismissed without opening his account.
The dismissal reminded us of his poor form in England in the year 2014 where he was seen struggling on anything outside off-stump, a weakness of which their bowlers made most out of. Kohli could just score 134 runs in 10 innings on that tour.
The Indian skipper would be hoping to shrug off his poor form in the country and get back in form soon so as to be a mainstay for Indian line-up ahead as it will be Kohli’s form with the bat that will decide how far Indian team will go in the tournament.
