2017 ICC Champions Trophy: Watch – Virat Kohli Irked By ‘Pleasant Moment’ Question At Press Conference

The last couple of days in the build-up to ICC Champions Trophy’s final between India and Pakistan, the expectation was that the Men in Blue would have an easy ride against the Men in Green. But when Hasan Ali accounted for Jasprit Bumrah, every pre-match prediction and expectations were thrown out of the window by Pakistan, as they thrashed their superior opponents by a whopping margin of 180 runs to lay their hands on the coveted trophy for the first time.

Barring the toss, India had very little to cherish on a dismal noon at The Oval, as right from the time when Jasprit Bumrah handed a reprieve to the century maker Fakhar Zaman in the fourth over to the last ball of the match, the defending champions looked out of sorts against a spirited Pakistan team. And Virat Kohli’s press conference began in a similar manner with a journalist asking him whether there was any pleasant moment for him during the match and at the same time, the reporter also mentioned that no ball from Jasprit Bumrah. The question took Kohli by surprise, as he was clueless on how a no-ball can be pleasant for him.

Here is a clip showing Kohli’s frustration at an absurd question:

But few moments and some frustrating facial expressions later, the press conference began on a serious note with the India skipper gracefully accepting the defeat and congratulating that better team of the day. India never looked in contention to chase down the 338 runs target after their top three were sent back by Mohammad Amir with only 33 runs on the board. India never recovered from those early setbacks and was eventually bowled out for 158.

“I want to congratulate Pakistan, they had an amazing tournament. The way they turned things around, speaks volumes for the talent they have. They proved it again – they can upset anyone on their day. It was disappointing for us but I have a smile on my face because we played well to reach the final. Credit to them that they outplayed us in all departments,” said Kohli.

Speaking on India’s stunning capitulation, Kohli further said:“This is what happens in sport. We can’t take anyone lightly but they were more intense and passionate on the day. With the ball, we could have had a few more wicket-taking opportunities. We tried to do out best, but even with the ball, they were aggressive.”
