2017 ICC Champions Trophy: Yuvraj Singh Talks About His Retirement Plans

Ever since Yuvraj Singh had lost his starting place in the Indian team since returning to action from cancer, speculations about his retirement were doing the rounds viciously. And why not? After all, his last One-Day appearance had come way back in October 2013. He had played few T20Is in the last couple of years but his absence from the ODI team was raising speculations that he was not in plans for the 50-over format.

But the fighter he is, the southpaw made a brilliant comeback to the ODI team earlier this year during the three-match series against England and silenced his critics with a belligerent knock of 150 runs. And his form in the ongoing ICC Champions Trophy is enough to prove that one of India’s greatest match-winners has still a lot to offer. The way he blasted Pakistan bowlers in the opening game of the Champions Trophy, the retirement talks have taken the back seat as of now. And the man himself is willing to don the Indian jersey for few more years.

He recently registered his names in the record books after becoming only the fifth Indian player to play 300 ODIs. The southpaw achieved the milestone during India’s Champions Trophy semifinal clash against Bangladesh on Sunday (June 15) and prior to the match, he had said he is looking to represent India for few more years. But at the same time, he had said that he had his apprehensions over whether he would play for India again during the tough times in his career.

“It’s a big achievement for me to face 300 games. When I started playing for India, I was just happy playing one game but it’s come a long way. At one stage, I wasn’t sure if I would play again, but yes, it’s been quite a journey,” Yuvraj had said.

“The biggest quality in me is never to give up. To keep pushing in life and never backing down have helped me come to where I am. I am lucky that I survived and playing for India. I am in a good zone and don’t want to talk about the regrets.”

“I am blessed to be playing for India again. As long as I am performing, I will like to play for India … hopefully a few more years,” he had added.
