2019 World Cup: Diligent Bhuvneshwar Kumar Simulate Match Situations
Team India fast bowler Bhuvneshwar Kumar is not vexed on warming the bench. He made it clear that he create game situations in a bid to throw himself into a litmus test during a practice session. Owing to a simulation, Bhuvneshwar reiterated that it’s applicable whether he’s bowling or batting. With third ODI of India vs Australia 2019 series starting on Friday (March 8), Bhuvneshwar is keen to rely on his approach. Also, in the lead up to the 2019 World Cup, Bhuvneshwar would require a couple of games to roll over his arm.
“In my mind, I work out situations. Like how I should play if I bat for four overs or how should I approach myself if its 10 overs. These are things I work at the nets,” PTI quoted Bhuvneshwar as saying.
In addition, Bhuvneshwar said he’s not worried on who’s breaking into the playing XI or not. He focused on the rest.
Adding to the numbers, Shami who played Test series against Australia went on to play four ODIs against the Black Caps.
Bhuvi aims to stay fit:
While shedding light on his consistency, Bhuvneshwar stated it’s the fitness which has pushed him to decide upon the rest. But he has missed out on three-match Twenty20 International series on Kiwis shores.
“I’m not worried about who’s getting a chance and who’s not getting. More importantly, it’s about getting rest. Shami got rest in New Zealand, I got rest in this series. You want to be consistent and for that you want to be fit. That’s the reason why I took rest,” Bhuvneshwar added.
Earlier, the 28-year-old Bhuvneshwar featured in eight ODI while missing out on the entire four-match Test series against Australia.
While reflecting on his partnership with prominent bowler Jasprit Bumrah, Bhuvneshwar stated that he’s aiming to stem the run flow. Adding it certainly adds pressure on the opposition.
“If Bumrah is taking wickets then I can contain runs, so that there’s pressure on the batsmen. These are things which we keep working on,” Bhuvneshwar said.
Bhuvneshwar followed by saying it’s the splendid effort from a bowling department which subsequently paves a way to yield desired results.
“Not just two of us but as a bowling unit, we keep in mind that if somebody is picking wickets. The other bowler’s job is to not give away any runs,” Bhuvneshwar remarked.
Situations push him to act:
Interestingly, Bhuvneshwar has been impressive with the bat too. Known for hard-hitting ability and equally good at defending, he is keen to delivery according to the situation of the game apart from his bowling.
So far, the first two games ended up on low-scoring contests. And Bhuvneshwar knows what it takes to either win or save the game.
“Depends on what the situation is. If there are a few overs left and there’s a batsman with me, I try to give the strike to him and hit a few balls. If there are many overs left and not many wickets, I just try to give myself the best chance to stay so that we can score as many runs as possible,” Bhuvneshwar further said.
Bhuvneshwar last played a T20I against New Zealand at Hamilton on February 10, 2019.
