As the Australian team is training in England ahead of the much-awaited 2019 World Cup, the head coach in the form of Justin Langer is equally enjoying his time in the nets.
Recently, his assistant coach, Ricky Ponting has joined the support staff in England – to impart knowledge to his national team players.
On Monday (May 21), the reigning champions were seen training hard to prepare for the impending World Cup. Also, Langer’s batting in nets has seen Maxwell poking fun at him.
Justin Langer bats without pads and gloves?
Interestingly, Langer batted without pads on which further saw his head tilting a bit. Maxwell was quick to pick it.
While playing his trademark shots, Langer didn’t event don the batting gloves before giving vital tips to the batters during the gruelling net session in Southampton.
The all-rounder while dissecting the southpaw’s batting in nets, said Langer has failed to hit the ball beyond the inner circle.
“I have just looked over, he just gets boredom batting every now and then. He just wants to have a hit. Does his little head tilt. No pads, but he was still poking around. He couldn’t hit out of the inner circle,” Maxwell joked in a video posted on Cricket Australia’s Twitter handle.
Meanwhile, Australia has been deemed as favourites for the ODI showpiece. Aaron Finch will lead the five-time champions as Steven Smith, and David Warner are back in the fold to bolster the batting line-up.
The Kangaroos have played some outstanding cricket in the ongoing year. Recently, Australia whitewashed Pakistan 4-0 in the five-match ODI series. Earlier, in March, Australia won the five-match series 3-2 after trailing 2-0.
Thus, they have won eight consecutive ODIs ahead of the 2019 World Cup.
Besides, Australia will begin their World Cup campaign in Bristol on June 1 against Gulbadin Naib-led Afghanistan.
