The 2024 Men’s T20 World Cup is scheduled to be hosted by the West Indies and the United States from 4 June to 30 June 2024 according to the reports in Espncricinfo. It will be the first ICC tournament to feature matches played in the United States, as the country has hosted a few International games including India and West Indies T20 series in 2023.
The 2024 T20 World Cup is set to be the largest event in terms of teams participating in the event. A total of 20 teams will be participating in the upcoming edition. Ireland, Scotland, and Papua New Guinea qualified for the 20-team T20 World Cup via the regional qualifiers alongside the top eight teams with the USA and West Indies being the host of the tournament.
The format for the next World Cup will be different from the last two editions, as the 20 teams will be divided into four groups with five teams each of which two teams qualify for the Super 8 stage. The Super teams will further split into two groups as the teams will play each other once, with the top two teams making it into the semifinal of the mega event.
The 2024 global event will be the first event in the USA, while the Caribbean nations have already hosted one 50-over World Cup (2007) and one T20 World Cup (2010) each.
Florida’s Fort Lauderhill ground, which had hosted a few India versus West Indies T20 games last year would remain an obvious choice of the venue alongside Morrisville, Dallas, and New York being the other options to host the matches.
It was also reported that ICC is in talks to bring Cricket back into the Olympics as the Cricket may to the World Games at the Los Angeles Olympics Games, as the T20 format is likely to be included in the multiple-nation game in 2028. According to reports, Men’s and Women’s T20 cricket competition is set to be included in the next Olympics.
Cricket is one of nine shortlisted sports for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics Games alongside baseball, flag football, lacrosse, break dancing, karate, kickboxing, squash, and motorsport. According to reports, that five top teams might participate in the games with the decision regarding participation at the end of this year.
