The name of the most successful captain in the history of Indian cricket tops the list. Dhoni was not in contention for a spot in India U-19 team for World Cup in 1999/2000 but had a chance to impress selection in the final of Cooch Behar Trophy. Ajay Ratra was selected as designated wicket-keeper for World Cup.

Under the captaincy of Mohammad Kaif, India defeated Sri Lanka to win the trophy for the first time. Yuvraj Singh was a part of that side and had a successful international career. Venugopal Rao was one of the players in that squad who went on to play for India.
