Unlike Dhoni, Gautam Gambhir was in the scheme of things for the junior World Cup but missed the bus. He went on to play for Delhi in domestic cricket and made his debut for India in an ODI against Bangladesh in Dhaka three years after World Cup.
Gambhir also missed the bus to 2007 50-over World Cup but was the star of the final for Men in Blue in inaugural T20 WC. Four years later, he and Dhoni led India to their second World Cup win at Wankhede Stadium against Sri Lanka. Yuvraj was a member of 2011 World Cup-winning team and was also adjudged as Player of the tournament.
