Apart from his captaincy, Dhoni had also received severe criticism for his poor show with the bat. His last century came way back in 2013 and pressure is only piling up on him with every failed opportunity with the bat.
With the likes of Manish Pandey, Kedar Jadhav, Karun Nair eagerly waiting for their chance, Dhoni needs to improve his batting performance to keep his place in the team. However, captaincy and the extra burden of closing the innings has taken a toll on his batting. During the New Zealand series, he batted higher and scored some good runs and will hope to do well without the pressure of captaincy.
