44 year old Matthew Hayden takes a blinder off Andrew Flintoff’s ball
The Legends of cricket have hurdled in Perth to play a match for amusement during West Australia’s annual Cricket Festival on Friday 11 December 2015.
Adam Gilchrist led Australia XI was comprised off legendary Australia cricketers and one of the finest all-rounder Andrew Flintoff and West Indies batting great Brian Lara.
The match was played at Aquinas College ground in Perth. The match organised by Big Bash League franchise Perth Scorchers, from whom it was a warm-up match before their first BBL match on December 21 against Adelaide Strikers.
In a match where legends like Glenn McGarth, Mathew Hayden, Andrew Symonds, Justin Langer padded for the second time in two years.
Justin Langer led Scorchers scored a hefty 186 for 5 batting first. Australia XI lost the match despite Brina Lara’s classic 51.
One of the fascinating moments of the match in the front full packed crowd in the college ground is Matthew Hayden’s brilliant catch at mid-wicket.
In the last ball of the 16th over Andrew, Flintoff bowled a low full toss on the leg stump batsman Bancroft could not time it well. Matthew Hayden flew in the air and took a blinder in his off side.
Hayden last played an international match in 2009. He is now 44. So, the catch surprised everyone.
The festival of cricket started in 2014. Last year Scorchers defeated Australia XI. Next time the match will be held in December 2016.
