IPL 2020: 5 Batsmen Who Are Favourites to Win the Orange Cap

Every year whenever the IPL is about to begin, it changes the scenario of the tournament which is beyond our imagination. For a tournament which has seen many intriguing contests and some wonderful talents over the last few years, IPL has been a platform for these players to showcase themselves at the earliest. The IPL has seen the emergence of some promising talents over the years who have further made their mark in the international fold. Besides, every edition has seen a new player who has gone on to grab the eyeballs.

Well, we all hope that this year’s event will produce a new talent like the previous editions, who can subsequently be a superstar of the future. In addition to this, IPL has seen some of the best innings by some of the finest players who have dominated world cricket with some wonderful performances. It has truly been an amazing experience to watch them perform particularly in top-flight cricket.

The list of batsmen about whom we are bound to discuss have been dominating world cricket since the last decade, or so, and will be the hot favourites to win the Orange Cap in this year’s IPL. Amongst them, we have added a player who is relatively new in the international set-up but is billed as the next big star of Indian cricket.

Here, we take a look at 5 such batsmen who are favourites to don the Orange Cap in this year’s event;

# 1 David Warner (Sun Risers Hyderabad):-

David Warner has re-established himself after making a comeback from the ball-tampering saga in South Africa in 2018. His unbeaten 335 against Pakistan in last year’s Test series showed why he is considered one of the most destructive openers in world cricket at the moment.

The left-handed batsman can destroy any bowling line up on his day with his aggressive style of play. Warner can find the gaps in the field with his powerful drives and square cuts.

The 32-year-old is quick on the back foot and can punch the ball powerfully even on slow wickets. Warner is equally strong while pulling the ball. Warner is not afraid to free his arms against the spinners to play the big shots.

Thus, he stands a chance to lay hands on the Orange Cap.

# 2 Virat Kohli (Royal Challengers Bangalore):-

The Team India skipper Virat Kohli will be expected to take charge of the batting along with AB De Villiers for the Royal Challengers Bangalore. Kohli will be hoping his side puts up a fine show than the last time around when his side finished at the bottom of the table.

When it comes to chasing a big total Kohli can pace his innings well. Whether it is white-ball cricket (T20 & One Day Cricket) or Test Cricket Kohli has showcased his class of how to build an inning.

The 31-year-old is strong on both sides of the wicket and can split the gaps superbly with his elegant cover drives and classical flicks. Kohli is equally sharp while playing on bouncy wickets and can make adjustments in his batting as per the nature of the wicket. Kohli can be an intelligent operator while running between the wickets, and has this knack of picking the gaps in the field cleverly during the run of play.

# 3 AB de Villiers (Royal Challengers Bangalore):-

The former South African skipper AB de Villiers will provide a much-needed boost in the batting order. The 35-year-old can change his game as per match situations and can rotate the strike intelligently.

De Villiers with all his experience will be the guiding force for the younger players in the squad. De Villiers can find the gaps with his well-timed and delightful cover drives. Anything short and De Villiers will punish the bowlers if it is slightly in the middle and leg area.

The right-hander can work the ball well in the gaps with his strong wrist work and possesses great footwork while playing on the front foot as well as the on the back foot. De Villiers can accelerate whenever the team need him and isn’t afraid to play the big shots against the spinners. De Villiers is quite sharp while picking the length of a particular delivery with his fantastic hand-eye coordination.

The veteran cricketer is also a handy fielder inside the ring as well as at the boundary.

# 4 Aaron Finch (Royal Challengers Bangalore):-

Aaron Finch can destroy any bowling attack with his accelerating and destructive style of play. The 32-year-old can cut the ball powerfully and can place the ball in the gaps with his destructive cover drives.

Finch has the tendency to make room outside the off-stump which gives him time to cut the ball in the gaps.

The right-hander is a fine puller of the ball and has the awareness to play the ball late on slow wickets. Finch is equally dominating against the spinners and can find the gaps with his unconventional strokeplay. Finch can cause heavy damage to any bowling line up if he gets going.

# 5 Mayank Agarwal (Kings XI Punjab):-

Mayank Agarwal stole the show in the Indian batting line-up in the last few seasons. His two double centuries (against South-Africa and Bangladesh) showed the 28-year-old can play aggressively as well as defensive cricket. Agarwal can punch the ball powerfully with his classic cover drives and can pull the ball well on bouncy wickets.

Agarwal doesn’t hesitate to play big shots against the spinners and has looked strong while on the front foot as well as the back foot. The right-hander will be the danger man for the opposition as he can take the game away from the opposition with his attacking style of play.

The promising face has played some fine knocks in the previous editions and his presence will certainly add a much-required muscle in the Kings XI Punjab’s (KXIP) batting order.
