Mahendra Singh Dhoni - 5 Instances When Captain Cool Showed His Masterclass 2
Coming in at number five in World Cup 2011 – That feeling of experiencing the moment of decade i.e. Dhoni hitting a six to win the World Cup give the utmost joy to an Indian fan. It was April 2, 2011 when Dhoni smashed Nuwan Kulasekara for a six to help India win the World Cup after a gap of 28 years.
Winning the World Cup would have remained a dream for Indian team if Dhoni would not have promoted himself in the batting order. Indian team were three down with a score of 114 and another wicket would have given Sri Lanka the baton but skipper Dhoni promoted himself and came at number five in place of Yuvraj Singh.
It was a big gamble by him as he didn’t have a good run in World Cup till then but his self-belief and not to forget the backing of Gary Kirsten helped him pull off something sensational.
He played an innings of 91*, overshadowing Gautam Gambhir’s innings of 97 and leading India to their second ever World Cup victory after 28 years.
