The tri series in the Caribbean, where South Africa crashed out early, was De Villiers’ final outing in colored clothing for his national side. Since July, De Villiers hasn’t played a single international fixture and the primary reason behind that has been his elbow injury. The devastating batsman underwent a surgery for his elbow, but that too didn’t help him as he missed out from the home Tests against Sri Lanka. Some sources close to the star batsman allegedly say that De Villiers’ ongoing feud with Cricket South Africa (CSA) over the racial policy could be a major reason behind his absence from the international scene. If De Villiers doesn’t return any time soon, the South Africans are in for a serious challenge.
