Branded A Rebel:
Branded a Rebel is a story of forgotten West Indies cricket heroes who played a pivotal role in bringing the revolution in South Africa culture. Back in the 1980s, cricket in South Africa suffered the consequences of politics. The game was halted for the extended period because of the apartheid rule being followed in Proteas’ land.
To keep the cricket alive, the South Africa cricket association started an unofficial tour called ‘Rebel Tour’. They offered hefty amounts to tempt cricketers around the world to tour South Africa. The West Indies cricketers, who were ruling the cricket world at that time, also toured South Africa, which became the most controversial tour.
Some Windies agreed to South Africa’s offer and toured there to play one-month long series. But who knew that they will regret their one decision for the whole life. When they returned from South Africa, they were banned for a lifetime by the West Indies Cricket Board.
This cricket documentary which is streaming on YouTube depicts the whole story behind the controversial tours and also who it affected the life of Windies.
